clarendon-cleggThe urban village of Clarendon located in the heart of the Orange Line corridor, compared to the other neighborhoods of Arlington, has a much more laid back, less business oriented, atmosphere. While there is a decent amount of nationally known businesses, Clarendon is known for its hip after-work bar scene and local, homegrown businesses.

Real Estate

Clarendon offers a number living options that can satisfy a wide range of buyers as it it one of the most popular areas for real estate in Arlington. Popular large condo buildings include:  Clarendon 1021, Station Square, the Phoenix and the Hartford. Another popular boutique condo option is Clarendon 3131. Clarendon is also home to some of the Orange Line’s most popular townhomes including Clarendon Park and the Bromptons at Clarendon. To the north of Clarendon is one of the areas most sought after single family home neighborhoods, Lyon Village. Directly to the south of Clarendon, another popular single family home neighborhood is Lyon Park. Clarendon homes are some of the fastest moving in the Arlington real estate market.

Food and Entertainment

It is this combination of local and national names that results in an extremely diverse retail and restaurant scene. Clarendon is also unique to Arlington for its sense of community. The Clarendon Alliance is an organization that unites the people and businesses of the community. Large events like the annual Mardi Gras celebration, and smaller weekly activities like the farmers markets give the residents a greater connection to the community. Clarendon Day, is an early autumn festival that brings together local restaurants and retail stores with rides and games. Clarendon also hosts the CSC Invitational, a professional and amateur bicycle race.

If those events and activities aren’t enough to draw prospective buyers, than the food scene will. Clarendon is well known for its lively bars and good food. Restaurants range from Peruvian to authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Some choice Vietnamese restaurants are remnants from the “little Saigon” that was formed in the late 1970’s. Other popular Clarendon establishments include:  Clarendon Grill, Don Tito, The Goat, Pamplona, Bar Bao, Lyon Hall, Liberty Tavern, BaBa, Ambar, and Cava. Clarendon’s nightlife is generally targeted towards the young professional. Clarendon Ballroom is popular nightclub that many frequent. Clarendon also houses a hip music scene. Places like Iota often show local bands.


The Clarendon Metro Stop is located right in the center of the neighborhood and is served by the D.C. Metro’s Orange Line, though it is not the only form of transit. Metrobus and Art routes also service the area. Major roads such as Arlington Blvd, Lee Hwy and Route 66 all run by the neighborhood. Main roads also have bike lanes and wide sidewalks, making travel safer. Like most of the Arlington neighborhoods, Clarendon also has Capital Bikeshare stations and public bicycle racks.
