As part of the planned redevelopment of Rosslyn, the non-profit child care resource, Rosslyn Children’s Center, needs to find a new home. Pending final approval, it appears they found one which will connect the center to Freedom Park. This is great news for the Orange Line families in the Rosslyn corridor. The center is seeking a lease in the building located at 1101 Wilson Blvd, with the added lease of an outdoor area in the back, which is not in use at this time. Currently there are the remains of an old museum exhibit on the Berlin Wall, which was put up when Newseum had a location in Rosslyn. The space would be a great spot for redevelopment, and provide a much needed outdoor area for the kids at the Rosslyn Children’s Center.
The parcel of land is owned by the county, so it is in their hands to review and approve a site amendment plan so that the area can be revamped and made ready for the kids. If the plan amendment is approved, the Rosslyn Children’s Center will take over a 10,140 square foot area including some garage space. The outdoor area behind the building will become a playground. It will be good to see a new use put to what remains of the old Berlin Wall exhibit. It has long been fenced off and becoming an eyesore for several years now. This is a great opportunity to enliven the area and help ensure the center has a new home in Rosslyn.
The Rosslyn Children’s Center is a community resource for children from 8 weeks through kindergarten, providing interactive care and learning for families. It is an ideal area to have this type of facility for those parents that work, and or, live in Rosslyn. Should the county approve their plans for the new location, there will be a 15 year lease on the space for the center which serves just over 120 children.
