Celebrate Howl-O-Ween & Falloween Together

by Dan Lesniak

It’s October and for many of us that means one thing, Halloween is finally just about here. There are all kinds of events going on throughout the month and many a pumpkin patch and corn maze to explore. Here along the Orange Line, we like to get into the spirit of Halloween early and this year Saturday October 24th is the day to get your costume and trick-or-treat fun started. You will want to come to the Market Common Clarendon with the pooch and the kids for a full day of family fun. The morning begins with the annual Howl-O-Ween Doggie Trick-or-Treat Walk and Costume contest. Immediately following this incredible fundraiser, the whole family can get in on early Halloween fun for the little ones with the Falloween Celebration.

Howl-O-Ween is an annual fundraiser that the entire family can join in. The amazing folks at Doorways for Women and Families put on this special event to raise funds benefiting the survivors of abuse and homeless people and pets. The walk will begin at 9:30 and go until noon. Anyone can register their dog to join the Trick-or-Treat Walk, adults for $30 and children for $20. Get creative with a costume for your dog and visit the businesses in the Market Common while competing to find out which top dog is dressed the best. Part Howl-O-Ween can include gaining pledges for the walk to add to the fundraising efforts of the day. This is a rare opportunity for children to be directly involved in helping with a charity. Most volunteer opportunities are limited to adults for liability issues, but Howl-O-Ween is open to all ages. There is even a doggie talent show and while not required, all human companions are encouraged to dress up as well for their own prizes.

As soon as Howl-O-Ween winds down, Falloween will get started. From 12:00- 4:00 the entire family is welcome to come and enjoy trick or treating early at the businesses of Market Common and enjoy other Halloween favorite activities. There will be a petting zoo, balloon artists and costumed characters roaming about. Don’t forget to get into the face painting on hand to add to your costumes. There will also be live entertainment for everyone with performances by our own Mr. Knick Knack from 12:00- 2:00 and Rainbow Rock Band from 2:00- 4:00. You can also get a keepsake photo taken to remember the day by and many of the businesses in the Common will have fun giveaways being announced throughout. This is the perfect opportunity to have some early Halloween fun for the family and get into the spirit of the holiday.
