When it comes to summer along the Orange Line, there are a lot of options for a great time with friends and family. One popular idea has not only returned for the summer season, outdoor movie nights are on again. Currently there are two locations where you can enjoy a movie night in Arlington, and a third is on the way. Market Common Clarendon and Penrose Square are offering free movie nights, starting this month. There will be a new series of summer movies starting in August. The movies are a mixture of family favorites, classics and recent releases.
Dinner and a Movie on the Loop is the summer series being offered by Market Common Clarendon. There will be a local restaurant featuring dinner at a set price on each movie night. You can eat starting at 7:45, and the movies begin at 8:30 on the next three Thursday evenings. On June 25th you can watch Grownups, an Adam Sandler comedy about friendships and age being a matter of perception. The next movie on July 2 will feature the Sandlot, the classic kid baseball and friendship movie from the 90’s. Wrapping up Dinner and a Movie will be an all-time favorite classic, The Wizard of Oz on July 9th. Bring a blanket or low chairs, and the entire family; there will even be free popcorn, candy and water.
The Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization (CPRO) is sponsoring two different venues for Summer Movie Nights. The first series began this month and will run every Saturday through September 19 at Penrose Square. These movies are all recent releases from within the last three years, and will appeal to a variety of audiences. From Intriguing bio-pics such as The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, to the latest quirky Wes Anderson film, Grand Budapest Hotel, or four-time Academy Award winner, Life of Pi, to family favorites, How to Train Your Dragon II and X-Men: Days of Future Past, you have plenty of Saturday evening entertainment waiting for you. All movies are free to attend and begin at 8:45. The CPRO will be sponsoring a second venue movie night this summer at Arlington Mill Community Center on Sundays from August 16th through September 20th. The final movie list is expected to be published by mid-July.
