Arlington a Top Place to Retire

key-bridge-663583_1280Orange Line Living just got more kudos as a great place to live. Bankrate.com, a long lived company which is one of the leading providers of financial rate information and research, also conducts surveys to find the best places to live based on demographics. Their latest ranking has been released on the best and worst places to retire in the United States. Arlington, paired with Alexandria as an area, was listed as the number two best place to live for retirees, and it is easy to see why we are so high on the list.

According Bankrate’s site, they began with thousands of cities to compare, but the list was pared down based on data available, specifically in terms of the criteria used to determine a livability rating. The end results were a total of 172 distinct areas in the U.S. which were rated. The only area to outrank us was in the west in the Phoenix/ Mesa area. The main differences between our two areas, besides the obvious weather differences, were under the taxes and cost of living categories. We outranked the Phoenix/Mesa area in other ways such as walkability factor, crime rate, well-being, and health care.

It is no surprise to us that we are among the top ranking places to retire. Bankrate.com sited our ease of access and high walkability factor along with our incredible healthcare system within the state. Our income tax rate is also lower than the national average. But there is more here than just these factors to attract retirees. Arlington is place alive with art and history. Not only can you walk just about everywhere, you are surrounded by historical architecture, classic and modern art, incredible parks and nature reserves, and all of our national treasures in the monuments of Arlington.
