Arlington County has announced that Tuckahoe Park, located at 2400 N Sycamore Street, will be getting some much needed renovations in 2016. For those of us who live, work, and play along the Orange Line, it is always a plus to see our green spaces taken care of and receiving improvements. Arlington County also wants to have the community involved when it comes to renovation plans for our parks and green spaces. With this in mind, there will be an open house held on Thursday, March 26th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Tuckahoe Elementary School library. This is your opportunity to see in detail the plans that are slated for Tuckahoe Park and to provide feedback to the County before renovations begin.
According to the parks department, the majority of the renovations planned center around the two softball fields currently at Tuckahoe Park. There will be new spectator and player bench areas, batting cages, bullpens, and improved ADA access to the areas for people with disabilities. Multi-use planning is also being conducted with the changes coming to the park; it is expected that the two natural turf outfields of the softball fields will also be able to be used for soccer games, allowing for more community sports at the park.
The renovations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2016 and be completed by the end of the year. In addition to the ADA access improvements around the ball fields, there will also be new ADA access provided from the park trail near N. Sycamore, helping make the park overall accessible to everyone. Tuckahoe Park has approximately 12 acres of recreation access with a playground, two lighted tennis courts, a large grass field, amphitheater, trails and paths, in addition to the two softball fields.
