ArlingtonRiverviewWhen it comes to deciding where to live in the internet age, research pays off. Living along the Orange Line in Arlington is one choice, and it is a choice that stands out. Livability.com, a website dedicated to understanding what makes a small to mid-sized city a great place to live, has released its 2015 Top 100 Best Places to Live, and no surprise to us, Arlington is the 3rd top place to live in the United States.

Livability uses a variety of resources to examine amenities, economy, education, housing, sustainability, and transportation within communities of 20,000- 350,000 residents. With the data compiled for over 2,000 U.S. cities, the list of Best Places to Live is based on a scoring system that they have developed. The scores are based not only by a review of their findings, but also on input from locals in each community being reviewed.

In a detailed summary as to why Arlington is such a wonderful place to live, several key aspects were noted. First is our middle ground status of being less urban than Washington D.C, but more suburban than most of the other towns and cities surrounding the capital. The design and use of our Metro system, and the long term development of Arlington along the Metro Lines was another big factor. This led to our great transit options and thoughtfulness of access to many aspects of Arlington, making our walkability Arlingtonat nightfactor a high one. The result of this planning is the Rossyln-Ballston Urban Village success story. We support a mix of residential, business, retail, and government spaces alongside single family home neighborhoods that are highly desirable.

For residents of Arlington, much of the draw comes from our parks, easy access to D.C., safety, and our schools. With more than 1,000 people riding bikes across bridges to the capital, and the large number of green spaces we have available in Arlington, there is so much opportunity to get out with ease and enjoy the place we call home. The diversity of our restaurants was also cited as another great attraction for Arlington. While we may be a small area on the map, we have big impact on what one can do here for a fulfilling life.
