Arlington Full of Volunteer Spirit

by Dan Lesniak

volunteerMany of us who enjoy the urban life of Orange Line Living, also enjoy being able to help others in need. This is a wonderful time of year to volunteer as part of your Holiday celebrations. No matter where your interests lie, there are so many ways to get out and help our community. Be it one-on-one assistance, spending time at an organization’s event, or donating, when you volunteer your time and support, you are not only helping others, you are helping yourself achieve that joyful holiday spirit of giving.

There are so many opportunities out there right now; the main challenge will be deciding what to do. As mentioned in my Turkey Trot blog just a couple of weeks ago, one of our inspiring organizations, Doorways for Women & Children has many programs and options for volunteer work. During this holiday season, you can help stock the shelter or even adopt a family for the month. Area food banks such as the Arlington Food Assistance Center often need help with sorting and packing food.

Children are a large focus of what we celebrate, no matter how we choose to do so. Many families could use some help when it comes to providing a special gift for a young one. For a very special way to help truly amazing kids, there is Cole’s Closet, a local nonprofit which collects toys for seriously ill children in Arlington hospitals. Seniors are another group in our community who could use a helping hand at the Holidays, and one of the best ways to do so is through Meals on Wheels. This outstanding organization has been bringing a warm meal and a smile to our seniors for years.

Whether you spend hours providing help in a variety of ways, or make one donation, whatever way you may choose to help others is always a good thing. It takes community to help community, and together we can help one another as well. Myself, and the Orange Line Living team are here to help you with our unique and specialized services so you can turn your home dreams into reality.
