Halloween is right around the corner, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate. There are several pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and area farms outside of Arlington, but for those that are looking for something fun to do close to or along the Orange Line, there are some great choices too. With Halloween on a Friday this year, many a family will be busy trick or treating or passing out candy, so Arlington has unofficially made Saturday October 25th the “Pre-Halloween” day full of festivities.
For the younger ones in particular (and a good time for the whole family), be sure to check out Falloween at Market Common in Clarendon. From 10:00 am- 1:00 pm, you can enjoy free entertainment, early trick-or-treating for all three hours, face painting, a petting zoo, pumpkin decorating, storytelling, and more. Special appearances by Mr. Knick Knack and Rocknoceros will be on hand for music and dancing with the kids. No need to go out of the city to get to the pumpkin patch, it will be waiting for you at Falloween.
You can make it a full Saturday of Halloween fun by taking the family to the Annual Halloween Party at Potomac Overlook Regional Park in the evening. From 6:30- 9:00 pm, there will be live music, games, arts and crafts, food, and even guided hikes through the park in the dark. What better way to get ready for a scary good time than walking through the woods at night? Maybe you will encounter an owl or two; maybe even something else…Advance registration is required, as this is a very popular event. You can register as early as October 4th, and tickets are just $10.00.
For the adults on October 25th, the area’s largest Halloween pub crawl will take place right along the Orange Line in Arlington. Dress in your favorite costume and enjoy specials along the way from Ballston to Clarendon and Courthouse, on down the line. There will be live music and a costume contest not to be missed! Check out the Halloween Crawl website for all the locations participating and plan a night of revelry with your friends.
