Defined as the generation born between 1977 and 1992, Millennials are in their early 20s to mid-30s and know what type of lifestyle they want to have.  Fast paced, tech savvy and connected, they are seeking an urban village life. Arlington is the top-rated place to provide that lifestyle according to the study.

Using census data culled from 2007- 2013, the study shows Arlington’s Millennial population has increased 82% during this 6-year time-span, the largest such growth in the entire nation. But what is it that makes living in Arlington not only appealing but also feasible? Simply put, good job prospects and low unemployment are key factors, along with an easy urban living setting.  We know along the Orange Line that the urban lifestyle is being fully embraced by the community at large. There is no need to leave the Orange Line corridor for your basic needs, or for your weekly entertainment choices. One can live here and have all that they want or need right at their fingertips, just as Millennials like it.

There is also a draw to higher income level jobs with proportionally higher home prices as well. With a large number of people in this generation working in some form of high tech, fast-paced career, they strive for a better salary and want homes that reflect their hard-earned work.  Arlington provides a great middle line for housing prices within the nation. With higher incomes available, Millennials can afford to buy more home for their buck compared to other high-income cities such as San Francisco and New York. The median home price in Arlington is at approximately $505,000, whereas San Francisco comes in at $950,000 and New York at $850,000. With our lower median prices, Millennials can live the urban lifestyle they have come to love and embrace.
