There are many urban advantages to living in Arlington. In particular, Orange Line Living offers a vast array of lifestyle choices, and access to goods, services and entertainment. But is it true you can live car-free in this spectacular area? With an emphasis on public transit, green living, as well as the planned walk-ability of Arlington, yes, you can live car-free.
Let’s talk fresh food. Rosslyn, Clarendon, Courthouse and Ballston, all on the Orange Line, have their own farmers markets. The Rosslyn and Ballston markets are seasonal and open on Thursdays from May through October each year. Open year round, The Clarendon Market operates on Wednesdays and the Arlington Farmer Market at Courthouse is held on Saturdays. Entertainment, Demonstrations and Education resources are also a part of the markets, bringing our community together in a variety of ways. With a focus on locality, you can get the crème of the crop for local produce, cheese, eggs, honey, baked goods and even flowers at any of these great community supported markets.
With all the development the Orange Line is seeing, one thing has remained important, our green space and a sense of sustainability. We have seen new parks come onto the scene such as the Clarendon-Barton Interim Open Space, and old favorites revamped like Rocky Run Park. With 11 parks along the Orange Line, residents have plenty of green space to explore and enjoy. Activities such as picnics, field sports, bike riding or jogging, walking the dog or simply enjoying the natural beauty of our parks, are all just a short walk outside the front door. Arlington’s many varied festivals and music events often take place at any given park along the Orange Line, offering even more entertainment within walking distance.
