Rocky Run Park

Rocky Run Park, in the Courthouse area, is open once again to the public. Orange Line Living in the Courthouse area is that much better just in time for Spring and Summer. Plans to renovate the park began back in 2009, and were funded by Neighborhood Conservations funds, parks capital maintenance bonds and pay-as-you-go funds. The renovation came in under budget at $3 million according to Arlington County.

Improvements to the park include a new playground for 5-12 year olds, a lighted synthetic turf area, two lighted basketball courts, a picnic shelter area and new bathrooms. The fully grown trees within the park were preserved during the renovation work, with the new facilities and equipment being built and installed around them. There was to be a “skateable” art feature within the park per the original design. It was determined during the second phase of the project that the artistic design and functionality of the feature would not be able to be effectively realized. Instead of the skate feature, there is a new area of lawn and shade trees.

Rocky Run Park has long been a favorite place for area residents to spend time outdoors. Families with young children have enjoyed the play structure and many sports games have been played upon the fields. With the new features, there will be a greater sense of community available once again to the Courthouse neighborhood. The park officially reopened on April 4th, and there is a ribbon cutting planned for April 27th at 2:00 PM.

The Courthouse Community can enjoy Rocky Run Park once again. You can enjoy your home buying or selling experience as well.
