“Envision Courthouse Square” Planning Begins

by Dan Lesniak

Arlington residents are being asked to give feedback toward the future of Arlington County’s civic center in the Courthouse neighborhood. If you are Orange Line Living, then this includes you. There will be a ten-month community process of planninCourthouseg workshops, meetings, feedback and discussion around the prospects of what the center could become. The Arlington County Board has dubbed the planning project Envision Courthouse Square.

What will someday become “Courthouse Square” is currently a nine-acre area around the county’s surface parking lot. The planning committee is looking to create a mixed use proposal, including county and privately owned real estate, new developments, open space and roads. The Courthouse Square Planning and Urban Design Study Working Group was formed in October last year to take full advantage of community input throughout the project’s planning. The working group has come up with five key areas to evaluate with community input. These are: building design and location, circulation of people, bikes and vehicles, community resources and sustainArlingtonCoVaability.

Made up of business owners, community leaders and residents, the working group expects to have recommendations for the County Board by the end of 2014. The first opportunity to offer ideas and feedback comes on Wednesday, March 26th  at 7:00 p.m. and is to be held at Key Elementary School in the cafeteria. If you want to have your voice heard, this is a great opportunity to join in helping the future of Courthouse Square be realized. There will be other planning workshops throughout the spring.

The incredible future of Courthouse Square is ours for the planning. The incredible future of your home buying or selling experience is yours for the planning too.
