Tis’ the Season for Buying a New Home

by Dan Lesniak

Is December a Good Time to Buy?

Many potential home buyers might be wondering if the holidays could be a good time to buy a new home in Arlington and the Greater DC area. The answer to that questions is definitely yes.

Throughout most of the year bidding wars were common in the area and buyers quickly snatched up homes. Buyers in the market for homes right now have a window of time where they might be able to get a better deal than usual. Most sellers do not want to put their homes on the market in between the Thanksgiving and New Year’s timeframe, so sometimes those who do are more eager to sell. There are fewer buyers looking during this time as many will wait until the beginning of the new year to pick up their search. With the wintry forecast for the next week or so this seasonal condition might be exaggerated as well.

So if you are thinking about buying a home soon, acting now, rather than waiting a few weeks might save you from competing with more buyers. Interest rates continue to remain in territory near record lows as well, so you can get a great deal on financing and potentially price.
