Capitals Twice Rally from Three Down

After raising the Southeast Division Banner things did not get off to a good start for the Washington Capitals in their season opener against the Calgary Flames at the Verizon Center. The home team quickly went down 3 goals to none in the first period. In the second the Caps narrowed the gap when Connor Carrick scored his first goal, but then found themselves down by 3 again when the Flames got on the board again a few minutes later. Minutes later Alex Ovechkin scored on an assist from Mike Green, narrowing the gap to 4-2. Later in the period Ovie scored again and the team entered the final period trailing 4-3. The Caps pulled even in the final period when Nicklas Backstrom scored on a power play. After a scoreless overtime the Caps went on to win in a shoot out on goals by Mikhail Grabovski and Alex Ovechkin.
